Since the moment we first learned that Brad Dourif, the longtime voice of Chucky, wouldn’t be voicing the possessed doll in the Child’s Play reboot we’ve wondered who would take his place. That question was answered yesterday during Orion’s panel at WonderCon. So who is the new voice of Chuck? It’s none other than Stars Wars actor Mark Hamill!
While Hamill seems like an odd choice, he has have had some impressive voice roles in video games, radio dramas, and animated films including DC’s the Joker in 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series.
In our hearts, Dourif will always be Chucky. But I have to admit, I’m curious to see how Hamill’s version of Chucky will turn out.
With Polaroid director Lars Klevberg in the director’s chair, Chucky will make his return to theaters this June. But that’s not all, Chucky’s getting a makeover and a new name. Originally known as “The Good Guy Doll” the red-headed killer has been rebranded as “Buddi”, an A.I. doll vastly different from the original talking doll.
The movie follows “(Aubrey Plaza) who gives her son (Gabrial Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.”
Beatrice Kitsos (“The Exorcist”), Brian Tyree Henry (“Atlanta”), and Ty Consiglio also star in the film written by Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury).
Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are producing under their KatzSmith Productions banner. Aaron Schmidt and Chris Ferguson are executive producing.
Child’s Play will open in theaters on June 21, 2019. Watch Hamill talk about his new role below.
