Earlier this year we reported that Universal is planning “re-imagining” 1996’s thriller Fear. We finally have an update. Today, Deadline reported that Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) is set to star.

Unlike in the original film that starred Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon, it’s said that this time the film will be from a female perspective.

In the original, “Nicole (Witherspoon) met David (Wahlberg); handsome, charming, affectionate, he was everything. It seemed perfect, but soon she sees that David has a darker side. And his adoration turns to obsession, their dream into a nightmare, and her love into fear.”

Straight Outta Compton‘s Jonathan Herman will pen the script. Brian Grazer will return to produce for Imagine Entertainment.
