The first casting news is here for Hulu‘s upcoming series “Monsterland.Jonathan Tucker (Westworld, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, pictured above) and Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart, Them That Follow, pictured below) are set to star in the premiere episode.

The series is based on Nathan Ballingrud’s short story collection “North American Monsters“, which we first reported back in May.

The first eight episodes of the series will feature tales of encounters with mermaids, fallen angels and other strange beasts that drive broken people to desperate acts in an attempt to repair their lives, ultimately showing there is a thin line between man and monster.

In the premiere episode, “Overwhelmed and underwater, teen mother Toni (Dever) is trapped in her dead-end life until a mysterious stranger shows her that escape is possible… but only if she’s willing to pay for it.”

The series was created by Mary Laws (“Preacher”) who will serve as the series’ writer and executive producer. Lucan Toh will executive produce along with Babak Anvari who will be directing.
