Netflix Orders South Korean Sci-Fi Thriller “The Silent Sea”

Netflix has ordered the new South Korean original series “The Silent Sea,” a sci-fi mystery thriller set in a future where Earth is running out of water, Variety reports.

Based on Choi Hang-Yong’s 2014 short film who will be directing, the Netflix original will star Jung Woo-sung (“The King”, pictured) who will serve as executive producer. Woo-Sung and his management agency Artist Company developed the series that will begin production in the first half of 2020.

The series follows a story of a group of Korean scientists who set off for the moon to retrieve unknown samples from an abandoned research station.

The Silent Sea” will be scripted by Park Eun-Kyo, who also penned the script for 2009’s Mother which won the Best Screenplay prize at the Asian Film Awards in 2010.

Jung also stars in thriller Beasts Clawing at Straws premiering in February 2020.
