For years Amazon has been teasing that a new series based in Stephen King’s The Dark Towers was coming. In fact, they were even announcing cast members this summer. Unfortunately, the series has now been canceled. Damn it.

Deadline is reporting that the streaming service feels that series from showrunner and executive producer Glen Mazzara was “not on the level of other large scope elevated genre series,” like their upcoming “Lord of the Rings” series.

The series would have followed King’s Novel closer than 2017’s film adaptation which bombed. It would have explored the origin story of Roland Deschain and his fight with the man in black.

The cast was rumored to include Michael Rooker, Jerome Flynn, and Joana Ribeiro, among others.
