The latest genre film in line for a reboot is 1998’s Urban Legend. Screen Gems has announced that Colin Minihan (What Keeps You Alive) will be in the director’s chair for the new film which has now begun the casting process.

The original, directed by Jamie Blanks, followed a group of college students who start seeing their classmates and BFFs killed off one by one by a murderer in a parka with each death echoing classic Urban Legends.

The reboot will be an updated version set in the digital age and the Urban Legends that are active now. And there’s a lot of them to choose from.

“The movie will center on a diverse cast of college students as they navigate a series of bizarre deaths that resemble urban legends linked to the darkest corners of social media.”

We can’t help but wonder if any actors from the original will make a cameo. The cast included Jared Leto, Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart, Joshua Jackson, John Neville, Tara Reid, and genre icon Robert Englund as Professor Wexler.

The reboot has a lot to live up to.
