People Are Literally Afraid Of Corona Beer

Beer… one of the cornerstones of human civilization, created to help make possibly contaminated water drinkable before turning into a well-enjoyed party starter throughout history. Unfortunately, there’s another cornerstone of human civilization that found its way throughout history as well… ignorance.

How do the two collide? Well, in my last article I talked about Coronavirus should offer a hint if you already haven’t guessed… according to a survey conducted by 5W Public Relations, 38% of American beer drinkers won’t buy Corona Beer because of the Coronavirus. YouGov’s recent survey has uncovered sales in Corona beer dropping since the virus’s story hit worldwide news outlets in November. As the title suggests and I’ll mention again here, there are people out there afraid of a beer because of its name!

Corona is the Spanish word for crown and derives from the Latin word Corona that’s borrowed from the Ancient Greek word korṓnē that means garland or crown (among other things), and the virus at the center of this story belongs in a group of viruses classified by their spiked “crown-like” appearance, and anything scientific (especially naming something) is always in Latin!

There’s one more bit of scary information I’m sorry to say. Earlier this month (February) internet searches for “Corona Beer Virus” spiked but has dwindled down as the month progressed.

 

UPDATE: Turns out this claim was a Hoax!
