First Syfy set its sights on a “Chucky” series, now they are breathing new life into George A. Romero‘s “Day of the Dead” by greenlighting the first 10-episode season of a new series based on the 1985 classic.

he original film followed a small group of military officers and scientists living in an underground bunker as the world above is overrun by zombies. Syfy‘s series sounds a little different. This time, the story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion, Deadline reports.

The series is written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who will also serve as showrunners. The show is from the same folks who brought us “Creepshow,” Cartel Entertainment.

Day of the Dead” will premiere on Syfy sometime in 2021. Take a look back at the classic with its original trailer.
