The Emmy Award-winning “Chernobyl” John Renck is currently in negotiation to direct the adaptation of John Fowles’ novel for the mini-series “The Magus,” Variety reports.

The Magus,” originally published back in 1966, is set on a Greek isle where Nicholas Urfe, a young school teacher, finds himself embroiled in the psychological illusions of a master trickster, which becomes increasingly dark and serious.

“1917’s” Neal Street Productions produces along with Pippa Harris and Sam Mendes and is written by Tom Edge (Judy, “The Crown”).

The novel has been adapted once before in the 1960s by Fowles himself and starred Anthony Quinn. Take a look at the 1968 film’s trailer (below).
