Earlier this year A24 and director David Lowery‘s (A Ghost Story) The Green Knight was scheduled to debut but became another victim of COVID. Now, news has come that it has scored an MPA rating of “R” due to “violence, some sexuality, and graphic nudity.” That’s one step closer to it getting a release.
From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table,” A24 explained The Green Knight earlier this year.
The film is “an epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger, and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger.”
Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), Joel Edgerton (The Gift), Barry Keoghan (The Killing of a Sacred Deer), and Ralph Ineson (The Witch) also star.
We’ve got our fingers crossed that a new release date will be announced soon. In the meantime, check out the trailer.
