Last year when the streaming service Quibi called it quits, viewers were left with many questions, including what would happen to many of the popular series? Back in January we first reported that Roku was in negotiations to acquire Quibi’s collection. Today, we can finally report that the deal is official.
Roku has bought exclusive global rights to Quibi’s entire library, meaning shows such as Sam Raimi’s “50 States of Fright” are now being labeled as “Roku Originals.” Other series include “The Expecting,” directed by American Psycho’s Mary Harrow, “The Stranger,” and many more. All of the content will be available on Roku’s free channel. While Roku will air the existing library, they have yet to order new seasons.
Deadline reports “More than 75 originals, including a dozen unreleased series, will stream for the first time on The Roku Channel this year,”
Hopefully, a release date for the Quibi collection will be announced soon. We’ll keep you posted.
