I recently received the  Supernatural: The Complete Series box set (review). When I opened the box I was surprised to find a cold pack inside the big brown box, then I discovered a sweet surprise, Warner Bros. had included a box of “Supernatural” themed chocolates from Valerie Confections. If you knew me, you would know that I have a major sweet tooth. Needless to say, I was thrilled.

As I slipped off the gold bow off of the white box and opened the top I discovered brown tissue paper sealed with a logo sticker. Then, I carefully opened it to find the coolest chocolates with a “Supernatural” theme. Of course, I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t taste them all (I love my job).

In all, there were eighteen chocolates. There were two types. One type was square and had a crisp, smooth chocolate shell with a flavored chewy toffee inside. The other had a chocolate shell that cracked easily underneath the weight of my teeth and featured a firm, but soft, creamy center. Each piece had a “Supernatural” theme and flavor that embodied aspects of the series which was explained on the card inside that detailed each flavor and provided a map of the pieces.

The larger pieces featured “Supernatural” themed images.

  1. Smoke and Fire: The piece starts out with a combination of sweet and smokey flavor before the heat sets in. It has a real kick to it.
  2. 72% Bitter Sweet is mostly smooth and chocolatey with a mildly bitter taste, a sign of quality chocolate.
  3. Black and Blue: Pays tribute to the many battles in “Supernatural”. It has a unique flavor, dark and slightly bitter, but in a very good way. I could not quite put my finger on the flavor but it left a faint hint of alcohol in my mouth.
  4. Champagne: This piece is a toast to the long-running, action-packed series. This round piece is smooth with a hint of sweetness but was in no way too sweet.
  5. Ginger: Ginger is a common ingredient in spells and is a nod to the show’s magic. This chocolate is square with wings painted on it. It’s crispy with a toffy type inside and an obvious ginger flavor that was surprising and a great choice as a combination.
  6. Orange: Orange is mentioned many times in the show, such as in Bobby’s Guide To Hunting and the orange-eyed demon. This square features the iconic tattoo the Winchesters have that protects them from being possessed. I found myself a little surprised that the orange flavor wasn’t more prominent. It was very mild, too mild.
  7. The last is “Classic” like the Winchester’s Impala, Baby. This piece features chocolate outside with the symbol for the Men of Letters and buttery toffee inside. It has a mild taste with a hint of sweetness.

All seven flavors were fantastic, but I have to say my favorites are the Black and Blue and the Ginger. The Blue and Black because of its smooth texture and taste, and the ginger because it was an unexpected combination that tasted fantastic. The Champagne chocolate was a close runner-up.

I was not familiar with the Valerie brand of chocolate before I received this box but they quickly won me over with just one bite. The candy is hands down the best chocolate I’ve had in ages, possibly ever. I will definitely be buying more in the future.

Valerie Confections’ aren’t the mass-produced chocolates you find at your local grocery store. All of their treats are hand-made with very high-quality ingredients. They also do custom work which is what the ‘Supernatural” assortment falls under. As for the price, you get what you pay for. Boxes begin at $20.00. Sinking your teeth into such a tasty treat is well worth the price and I would recommend the shop to anyone.
