“American Gods”  season three is arriving today on Blu-ray and Digital, from Lionsgate and it’s a must-have!

Season three, one of the best seasons so far, finds gods of old and new on the brink of war. Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) has discovered that Mr. Wednesday (aka Odin) (Ian McShane) is in reality his father. As he copes with the discovery he sets out to find his own path with the help of ancestors, the Orishas. When he lands in the small snowy town of Lakeside, Wisconsin he discovers the town’s bloody secret and must choose between divinity and humanity.

This season turns up the drama as we watch Shadow Moon go through a gambit of emotions. Shadow Moon has been through so much. Whittle does not disappoint. As with the previous seasons he puts his whole heart into the role to make a character that you can’t help but cheer for.

McShane, who is a Primetime Emmy Award winner, is perfect for the role of the snarky, intimidating god that is somehow loveable and frightening at the same time. I mean, he’s the “all father” for god’s sake.

We see Bilquis (Yetid Badaki) set out on a journey of discovery of her own, into her past and the past of her people to rediscover her true self. That journey is both powerful, moving, and in some ways heartbreaking. I found myself having goosebumps and even shed a tear or two.

Many of the gods in the series are struggling this season and are making discoveries of their own selves including Technology Boy (Bruce Langley). The humans that are in the god’s inner circle are also fighting to find their place in the world. Laura Moon (Emily Browning) proves once again that she can not be trusted as she makes a deal with Mr. World (Crispin Glover) that will affect both the gods and humans. It will you with jaw on the floor and yelling at your TV. Can we please kill her off already? For good this time?

Besides having a great story, based on massively popular novel by Neil Gaiman, the show has amazing special effects that are mindblowing. Their use of technology to create this incredible and often violent world would make Technology Boy himself proud.

That ending though, talk about a cliff hanger! Since the finale, I’ve been praying to the gods that we get a fourth season. I have to know what happens next!

As with the previous seasons, “American Gods: Season Three” will leave you on the edge of your seat and cheering for your favorite characters. Between the drama, action, and real tension, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

The Blu-ray and DVD special features are worth the purchase alone and include:

  • Meet the New Gods of Season Three
  • Road to Epiphany: The Season Three Journey
  • Five Questions for the Cast

If you haven’t watched season three I urge you to pick up a copy on Blu-ray or DVD, which are out on July 27, 2021, from Lionsgate.
