Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel At Home in This World Anymore, Green Room) is directing a remake of Troma’s The Toxic Avenger for Legendary Entertainment. Today, we’ve learned via a Tweet from Blair (below), who is not only directing but also wrote the script for the remake, that filming has now officially wrapped.
In the 1984 original, directed by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, “The Toxic Avenger is born when meek mop boy Melvin falls into a vat of toxic waste. Now evildoers will have a lot to lose.”
Deadline has described the film as, “A contemporary reimagining of Troma Entertainment’s successful 1984 low-budget action-comedy hit, The Toxic Avenger is steeped in environmental themes and subverts the superhero genre in the vein of Deadpool. When a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends, and his community from the forces of corruption and greed,”
The all-star cast for the movie includes Elijah Wood (Maniac, Come to Daddy), Julia Davis (Sally4Ever), Taylour Paige (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Kevin Bacon (Tremors), Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”), and Jacob Tremblay (The Predator). Kaufman and Herz are producing the new version of Troma’s classic.
Hopefully, the release date will be announced soon.
