Focus Features has released several new photos via IGN from Robert Eggers‘ highly-anticipated film The Northman, including a new look at Alexander Skarsgård as Amleth.

Eggers, who also directed the award-winning films The Witch and The Lighthouse, co-wrote the film with Icelandic novelist and poet Sjón.

Skarsgård stars as Viking prince Amleth, who watches his father (Ethan Hawke) die after being betrayed by his uncle Fjölnir (Claes Bang) who then takes Amleth’s mother (Nicole Kidman) prisoner. Amleth has spent his whole life repeating the mantra, “I will avenge you, Father. I will save you, Mother. I will kill you, Fjölnir.”

Anya Taylor Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk, Nicole Kidman, and Willem Defoe (The Lighthouse) also star in this brutal epic tale. Lars Knudsen, Mark Huffman, and New Regency produce along with Focus Features.

The Northman will arrive in theaters on April 8, 2022, from Universal Pictures.
