The first killer’s hunting ground is in Long Island, New York, and odds are, you’ve heard his name given by the press, “The Long Island Serial Killer.” With a body count of at least 16, it’s believed that he took his first victim in 1996, but recent updates have connected the unknown killer to other victims from as far back as the early 1980s.
Most of “The Long Island Serial Killer’s” victims have been sex workers that have advertised their services on Craigslist. Usually, after murdering the women by strangulation, he dismembers their bodies then leaves their bodies in sacks on the beaches of Long Island, hence the name. On May 1, 2010, Shannon Gilbert arrived at a client’s home. After a while, Shannon makes a panicked phone call to 911, during which she tells the operator, “They are trying to kill me.” No one knows what happened next, her body was discovered the following year in December of 2011. While has not been confirmed, many suspect that she is one of the illusive killers’ victims. Law enforcement’s search for the woman leads police to discover that there is a killer on the loose. While no one has been arrested, there are a few suspects, John Billtroff, who was arrested for murder in 2017. His DNA was found on two of the woman. The next suspect is James Burke, a former police chief, who was arrested for assault on an escort. Neither has been charged with the murders.
The next killer is ” The Chicago Strangler.” who has been active for two decades, with his most recent victim being found in 2021. This killer has a massive body count, having an estimated body count of 75. There is a theory that The Chicago Strangler” is a team. It’s believed that the first kill came back in 2001. The majority of the victims are young black women who are prostitutes from South West Chicago. After being assaulted their lifeless bodies are left in abandoned buildings, dumpsters, or parks. One of the victims was Theresa Bunn who was 8 months pregnant.
In Jefferson Davis Paris, Jennings, Louisiana, between 2005 and 2009, the severely decomposed bodies of eight women were found in the swamps. Referred to as “The Jennings 8,” the murders remain unsolved due to the mistakes and evidence lost. leaving some in the community believing that the cops are involved in the case somehow. Each of the victims had a connection to the others with some being related or friends. It doesn’t stop there, man of the women were police informants. Several of the women witnessed the police shoot a drug dealer in 2005. Could they all be victims of corrupt cops or serial killers? Or is it both?
Since 2020 four victims were discovered and linked to the knife-wielding murderer known as “The Little Rock Killer.” Unlike most serial killers, this one chooses his victims at random with no specific type. What we do know about the suspect comes from prevalence footage after he kills a victim on the street. Police believe that he is African American around six feet tall and is likely a member of the community. There is currently a $20,000 reward for his identification.
Our sympathy goes out to all of the families of the victims.
