Production has begun on David Gordon Green’s upcoming film The Exorcist. Yesterday we reported that young Olivia Marcum had joined the cast. Now news has come via Deadline that Raphael Sbarge has been cast as a pastor in the film.
Green is directing the new sequel to The Exorcist for Universal, Blumhouse, and Morgan Creek, the first of a new planned trilogy.
Leslie Odom Jr., who plays the role of the father of a possessed child, Ellen Burstyn, will reprise her role from the original film as Regan’s mother, Chris MacNeil. They star along with the new cast members Marcum and Raphael Sbarge, who you will recognize from the “Once Upon A Time,” “Gaslit,” and “Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story.” Ann Dowd (Hereditary) and Lidya Jewett (Netflix’s Nightbooks) co-star.
The upcoming film marks the first film for the franchise since 2004’s prequel Exorcist: The Beginning. However, there was also a series that premiered in 2016 on FOX. Green’s installment is set to open in theaters on October 13, 2023.
