David Gordon Green is back at it again, putting a new spin on a horror classic. First, it was Halloween, now it’s The Exorcist. News has come that the first film of a new Exorcist trilogy has officially wrapped.
Green is directing the new sequel to The Exorcist for Universal, Blumhouse, and Morgan Creek, which is set to open in theaters this October.
The cast includes Leslie Odom Jr. and Ellen Burstyn, who will be reprising her role as Chris MacNeil from the original 1973 movie. Raphael Sbarge (“Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story.”), Olivia Marcum, Ann Dowd (Hereditary) and Lidya Jewett (Netflix’s Nightbooks) co-star.
“Odom Jr. will play the father of a possessed child. Desperate for help, he tracks down Ms. Burstyn’s character.”
Peter Sattler (Broken Diamonds) and Gordon Green wrote the script based on a story by Green, Scott Teems (Halloween Kills) and Danny McBride (Halloween).
The upcoming film marks the first film for the franchise since 2004’s prequel Exorcist: The Beginning. However, there was also a series that premiered in 2016 on FOX. Green’s installment is set to open in theaters on October 13, 2023.
