When I was a kid we had a video rental store where for an extra $5 kids could rent horror movies without an adult. One of the most notorious movies offered was Faces of Death, which kind of served as a right of passage, and it left kids scarred for life after watching real death scenes and the aftermath of real deaths.

Now, a remake of the infamous 1978 documentary-style film Faces of Death, which is still banned in 46 countries, is set to begin filming this month.

Deadline is reporting that Josie Totah (“Saved By The Bell”) has joined the cast alongside Barbie Ferreira (“Euphoria”) and “Stranger Things” actor Dacre Montgomery.

Legendary Entertainment is behind the new version of John Alan Schwartz’s controversial cult classic. Isa Mazzei co-wrote the new script along with Daniel Goldhaber, who is also directing.

The original, brutal film centers on pathologist Francis B. Gross and includes footage of different gruesome ways of dying, surgeries, autopsies, and more. Some of the scenes were real. However, some were fake.

Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan Montford are producing the new version. Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath are also producing. Mazzei and Rick Benattar are serving as executive producers. Cory Kaplan and Derek Bishé will co-produce.

“Faces Of Death was one of the first viral video tapes, and we are so lucky to be able to use it as a jumping off point for this exploration of cycles of violence and the way they perpetuate themselves online.” Deadline quotes Mazzei and Goldhaberas saying.

You can pick up your copy of the original 30th Anniversary Edition or the collection of the four installments from stores like Best Buy and Amazon.
