Many great horror films have been released over the years that have fallen between the cracks, movies that everyone should have seen. We’re here to remedy that. This movie list series will put a spotlight on some of those films.

 

Frailty (2001)

In the dark, thrilling, and brilliant film directed by and starring Bill Paxton and also starring Matthew McConaughey, “a mysterious man arrives at the offices of an FBI agent and recounts his childhood: how his religious fanatic father received visions telling him to destroy people who were, in fact, “demons.” Frailty is a must-see.

The Others (2001)

Written and directed by Alejandro Amenábar, the film stars Nicole Kidman as a woman who lives in her darkened old family house with her two photosensitive children and becomes convinced that the home is haunted.

Session 9 (2001)

 

This movie is simple, effective, and brilliant. In the film, tensions rise within an asbestos cleaning crew as they work in an abandoned mental hospital with a horrific past that seems to be coming back.

 

 

David Caruso, Stephen Gevedon, Paul Guilfoyle, and Josh Lucas star in Session, directed by Brad Anderson.

Splinter (2008)

 

If you’re a fan of body horror, this movie is for you. In the movie, a group of people finds themselves trapped in an isolated gas station by a voracious Splinter parasite that transforms its still-living victims into deadly hosts. A young couple and an escaped convict must find a way to work together to survive this primal terror.

Ticks (1993)

 

Sometimes you just have the urge to watch a horror movie that’s a little cheesy and gross. That’s Ticks. Watch as a group of troubled teenagers is led by social workers on a California wilderness retreat, not knowing that the woods they are camping in have become infested by mutated, blood-sucking ticks.

 

This blood-drenched flick stars a young Seth Green and  Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Pontypool (2008)

This one is for zombie fans and is one of the best out there. In Pontypool, “A radio host interprets the possible outbreak of a deadly virus that infects the small Ontario town he is stationed in.”

Slither (2006)

Before James Gun became a household name for movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, he made a nasty little body horror movie named Slither, and it is a must-see. Nathon Fillion, Michael Rooker, and Elizabeth Banks star.

 

In Slither, “A small town is taken over by an alien plague, turning residents into zombies and all forms of mutant monsters.”
