The cast of Peacock’s upcoming series “Hysteria!” just keeps getting more impressive. The latest star to join the cast is none other than horror legend Bruce Campbell!
The series, directed by Jonathan Goldstein (Dungeons & Dragons, Game Night), sees “a beloved varsity quarterback disappear during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s. “A struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.”
Campbell (Evil Dead, Army of Darkness) will play the role of Chief Dandridge, described as “a small-town police chief whose understanding of his community is tested after a disturbing series of murders, disappearances, and unexplained phenomena,” Variety reports.
Campbell joins previously announced cast members Anna Camp, Julie Bowen, Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, and Nikki Hahn for the series created by Matthew Scott Kane (AHS, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), who also writes and executive produces.
UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, will produce the series. John Francis Daley and Chris Bender and Jake Weiner (Under the Silver Lake) will executive produce for Good Fear.
“This nail-biting thriller dives into a mass moral panic and all the fears, desires, anger, and dread that led to these dark days,” Beatrice Springborn, President, UCP has stated. “Matthew’s script is original, intriguing and perfectly captures the frenetic energy of the Satanic Panic. We can’t wait for audiences to experience the show on Peacock.”
We’ll keep you posted as we learn more. In the meantime, check out Evil Dead Rise, which is currently in theaters and was executive produced by Bruce Campbell.
