With the Halloween season underway, Netflix is continuing to add a ton of thrills and chills this week with new releases. Here’s what to watch.
The Fall of the House of Usher
Series
Director Mike Flanagan is back (not that he ever left) with his new series, based on the tales of Edgar Allen Poe, titled “The Fall of the House of Usher.”
The limited series from Intrepid Pictures features eight episodes, four that were directed by Flanagan and four by Michael Fimognari, who worked with Flanagan as cinematographer for “Haunting of Hill House” and who directed several episodes of Flanagan’s series “The Midnight Club.”
“The Fall of the House of Usher” will debut on Netflix on October 12, 2023.
The Devil On Trial
Documentary
Did the devil really make him do it? That’s the question people have been wondering for decades. On November 24, 1981, Arne Cheyenne Johnson was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter. But what made his case unique? It was the first case to be heard in a modern court of murder by possession.
You may remember Johnson’s story thanks to 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, but the story is very much based on reality. In the months leading up to the murder, the brother of Arne’s girlfriend was reportedly possessed, and in February of 1981, the entity took over Johnson. He and his landlord, Alan Bono, got into a fight that ended with Bono dead. Ed and Lorrain Warren deemed Johnson possessed, giving his lawyer a unique argument.
Witness The Devil On Trial, premiering on Netflix on October 17, 2023.
Bodies
Series
The series unfolds across four different timelines where the same murder victim is discovered on the same street in Whitechapel. The mystery of how that is possible unfolds as police discover they are working the case with other detectives over time and space and that a mysterious political leader is somehow involved.
“Bodies,” featuring eight episodes, is set to premiere on Netflix on October 19, 2023, as part of their Halloween lineup.
The Conference
Part slasher, part comedy. The Conference is set at a teambuilding conference attended by a group of employees. The getaway quickly spirals into a nightmare when accusations of corruption begin to circulate and plague the work environment. All the while, a mysterious figure begins stalking and murdering the participants, one by one.
Watch the movie on Netflix beginning on October, Friday the 13th.
