Horror fans have begun flooding social media with posts demanding justice for Scream star Melissa Barrera after she was fired from the upcoming Scream sequel.
The actress who starred in Scream and Scream VI has been fired due to a ridiculous reason: her social media posts supporting the Palestinians. Fans are angry, and who could blame them? Being famous shouldn’t prevent someone from voicing their opinions, especially when it comes to something like this. Last time I checked, free speech was still a thing.
So what horrible, controversial thing did she say to get fired?
“Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp,” she said in one post on Instagram stories. “Cornering everyone together, with no where to go, no electricity no water … People have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”
Variety reports that a spokesperson for Spyglass Media Group says that the studio fired Melissa Barrera from the cast of “Scream 7” because her social media posts were interpreted as antisemitic.” Seriously?
“Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
I find it ridiculous that she was fired, and the fact that Barrera didn’t learn the news from SpyGlass is even more insane. She had to hear it from her Scream co-star, Jenna Ortega.
Barrera’s character was key in Scream VI. She played the role of Sam Carpenter, the daughter of one of the original Scream killers, Billy Loomis. Sam is one of the four survivors from the most recent Woodsboro Ghostface killings who have moved to New York City for a fresh start. Just as they begin to feel a sense of normalcy, they receive that infamous call. Ghostface is more brutal and relentless than ever and will stop at nothing to hunt them down. She was set to reprise her role in Scream VII, coming sometime in 2024.
We’ll keep you posted as we learn more, but I will say this: Barrera has our full support. To show your support, take to social media and use the hashtag #JusticeForMelissaBarrera. But that’s not the only hashtag being posted. People are calling for a boycott of the movie, tweeting #BoycottScream7.
Here’s what people are saying.
By wrongfully firing Melissa Barrera from Scream 7, Spyglass has also angered those against murder and war crimes.

Wow. Looking through “Melissa Barrera” on Twitter and reading everyone’s tweets. It’s so overwhelmingly emotional. I’m sorry, but I literally have tears in my eyes.
I’d never thought I would ever be so disappointed in the franchise that I love the most. It’s so bittersweet. pic.twitter.com/VlwuK1yJkd

Sorry @GhostfaceTalks_ I cannot continue with you on your @ScreamMovies journey. As much as I love the core 4, no Melissa Barrera, no follow. It's been a good run, but @ParamountMovies has killed my collection at SCREAM 6.
