‘I Spit On Your Grave’ Celebrates Its 45th Anniversary With New Book

To mark the 45th anniversary of Meir Zarchi’s infamous film, I Spit n Your Grave, also titled Day of the Woman,   is being honored with a script book from publisher Printed in Blood.

When Meir Zarchi was asked 1978 about the film’s shelf life, he replied, “Five years.” Meir Zarchi states, “Jennifer Hill’s legacy will outlive both of us.” The film’s enduring legacy is evident in several aspects, such as its powerful message, realistic shooting style, female interpretation, and influence on other genres over the years. For example, recent films like Revenge and Promising Young Woman have inspired it.”

The film tells the story of “Jennifer Hills (Camille Keaton), a novelist, who is left for dead after a brutal assault and exacts vengeance on her attackers. It’s one of cinema history’s most debated and discussed films, referenced daily worldwide by film scholars and critics. It is now part of the New York Museum of Modern Art’s permanent film archive collections. The film has spawned several movies and a sequel, I Spit On Your Grave Deja Vu, which reunites Meir Zarchi with Camille Keaton and Jamie Bernadette, who plays her
daughter.

The film’s enduring legacy is evident in its powerful message, realistic shooting style, female interpretation, and influence on other genres over the years. For example, recent films like Revenge and Promising Young Woman have drawn inspiration from it. It also shares a similar status with other iconic horror films, such as
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
