Earlier this year, we reported that Scott Derrickson’s The Black Phone would get a sequel. Today, Deadline reports that Ethan Hawke will reprise his role as “The Grabber.”
Hawke is not the only cast member returning; Mason Thames (How to Train Your Dragon, Incoming), Madeleine McGraw (Secrets of Sulphur Springs), Jeremy Davies (“Justified”), and Miguel Mora are also set to return for the sequel, which Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will be back to produce. There’s no word yet if Derrickson will direct the sequel.
The first film was based on Joe Hill’s short story and centers on Finney (Thames), a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who is abducted by a sadistic killer (Hawke) and finds himself trapped in a soundproof basement where his screams can’t be heard.
The casting news isn’t the only news that has recently surfaced about the movie. The Black Phone 2 already has a premiere date. Blumhouse and Universal are set to release it in theaters on June 27, 2025.
Here’s a look back at the trailer for The Black Phone, which you can watch now on Peacock, DirecTV, Prime Video, or get your copy on Blu-ray.
