Buffalo 8 has now announced the North American VOD release of First Time Caller. A darkly comedic film directed by J.D. Brynn and Abe Goldfarb. Watch it on Cable and Digital VOD this January.
First Time Caller is based on Gideon Media’s acclaimed podcast “The Earth Moves.” It explores themes of success, power, loneliness, and the apocalypse in a darkly humorous light.
“Brent Ziff is an internet shock-jock at the top of his game. Fans and followers tune in from coast to coast to be insulted and enlightened by their favorite on-air provocateur. On one very unusual night, Brent’s world is rocked by a long-time listener who calls in with a grave message.”
Abe Goldfarb and Brian Silliman reprise their roles from the podcast as Brent and Leo, delivering powerful performances alongside the vocal talents of Greg Proops, Ophira Eisenberg, and Ashlie Atkinson. The film’s screenplay was adapted by Mac Rogers, who also penned the original podcast.
Patrick Terry of Cinedata produced the film, with Gerry Ohrstrom, Thomas Campbell Jackson, and Lawrence Starr joining Buffalo 8’s Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor, Nikki Stier Justice, and Grady Craig as executive producers.
First Time Caller received critical acclaim following its world premiere at the Seattle Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize and awards for Best Actor (Goldfarb) and Best Director (Goldfarb and Brynn). The film’s success continued at the Brooklyn SciFi Film Festival, where it took home the award for Best Feature Film, and at the Bowery Film Festival, where it served as the prestigious Opening Night Feature.
The film will premiere on January 12, 2024, on platforms like Prime Video, Vudu, Vubiquity, Cox, and Comcast.
