When Rockstar Games revealed the trailer for the long-awaited next installment to their “Grand Theft Auto” franchise, Grand Theft Auto 6, the news was met with great hype but also met with no one being surprised as the game’s trailer was leaked onto the internet, much to Rockstar Games’ horror. But justice has been delivered to the hacker who performed the deed, and it was not too hard for authorities to track the hacker down, as he was already in custody at the time of the hack!
The 18-year-old hacker, who was part of an organized cybercrime group, was in custody and was awaiting trial for hacking Nvidia (a software company) and BT/EE (a broadband and mobile provider in the UK), he hacked into Rockstar Games with only an Amazon firestick, the hotel’s TV, and his cell phone, as his laptop was confiscated.
The hacker and the group he was a part of have hacked into large corporate entities and would steal information and hold them ransom demanding large sums for the data’s return. The hacker demanded that Rockstar contact him in 24 hours after the hack or he’ll release the source code and 90 game clips he stole online… which he did.
The 18-year-old hacker from Oxford, UK, has been sentenced to life in a medical facility until he is deemed fit for release, as the hacker in question is autistic and was declared unfit for trial. While in custody he was also violent and caused bodily harm and destruction to property. While undergoing psychological exams, he expressed a desire to continue committing cyber crimes. His actions while in custody, and the evaluations have led to the court’s decision.
