The upcoming, unnerving religious horror film Immaculate has released its chilling new red-band trailer. And it looks fantastic and eerie as hell.
In the film, Sydney Sweeney stars as a staunchly religious woman named Cecilia. She is welcomed into a convent in Italy. But things are not quite as they seem within those walls, and Cecilia soon finds herself with child, and possibly without a clear answer for who the father is, thus the film’s title.
But if you thought that a bunch of nuns would be the perfect group to welcome a new child into, you would be very wrong. Dark secrets are being hidden, with Cecilia and her hopefully not already doomed child needing to escape before falling victim to one or more of those evil-looking crones.
The trailer opens with Cecilia arriving at the convent. The seemingly warm and welcoming nuns greet her. However, the atmosphere quickly shifts as Cecilia begins to experience strange occurrences and unsettling visions. She soon discovers that the convent harbors a dark secret and that her and her child’s lives are in danger.
Many religious horror films were released in 2023, including The Pope’s Exorcist and The Exorcist: Believer, both bombed and received multiple Razzie nominations. But Immaculate gives us hope that it will finally see religious horror done right in 2024.
Immaculate is set to be released in theaters on March 22, 2024. Sign up for Fandango’s “Fan Alerts,” and you will know the moment when tickets go on sale.
