Ahead of its Shudder premiere on February 23, 2024, we sat down with the stars Paul Wesley and Jackie Cruz to discuss the dark new film History of Evil.
Written and directed by Bo Mirhosseni, History of Evil depicts a nation under the thumb of a theocratic police state. A seemingly ordinary family huddles together – a mother, father, and daughter after the wife (Cruz) escapes prison. The father, played by Wesley, wants to shield his loved ones. Yet, a subtle shadow seems to cling to him, hinting at the sinister forces lurking beneath the surface.
The film depicts a world where war and corruption have ravaged America. It has transformed it into a land of oppression and fear. Seeking refuge in a remote house, the family initially finds brief solace. However, the secrets buried within the house’s walls begin to emerge. And a malevolent force preys on Ron’s vulnerabilities.
As the dark past of the safe house intertwines with Ron’s descent into madness, the family dynamic fractures. They are forced to confront not only the external threat of the militia but also the terrifying darkness that has taken root within their temporary home.
Paul Wesley is best known for his long-time role as Stefan Salvatore in the hit series “The Vampire Diaries.” He also stars in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.”
As for Jackie Cruz, you will recognize her from the incredible, Emmy-winning series “Orange is the New Black,” in which she plays jailbird Marisol “Flaca” Gonzales.
