Anchor Bay Entertainment, back with a bang after its revitalization, has acquired the North American rights to the darkly comic horror film Crust from Sean Whalen, which has been in the works for several years. Directed by and starring Whalen (“The People Under the Stairs”), this oddball flick is unlike anything you’ve seen before. And arrives later this year.

Anchor Bay Thrilled to Grab Whalen’s Debut:

Founders Thomas Zambeck and Brian Katz express their excitement. Zambeck, a self-proclaimed Whalen fan, states, “I’m thrilled to be in business with him, especially for a film that displays such a mastery of tone. I can’t wait for audiences to enjoy this unique experience.”

Behind the Crust:

Sean Whalen, who we interviewed about the film several years ago, co-wrote and directed the film alongside Jim Wald. The cast boasts recognizable names like Daniel Roebuck (Rob Zombie’s The Munsters), Rebekah Kennedy (Two Witches), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), Ricky Dean Logan (Back to the Future), and even Alan Ruck (“Succession”). Whalen himself shares his enthusiasm, “I’ve loved Anchor Bay’s films for years, and they understood my vision immediately. I couldn’t ask for a better partnership.”

The Curious Case of Crust:

The film delves into the bizarre life of Vegas Winters, a washed-up child actor seeking solace in a run-down laundromat. His tears of despair awaken a peculiar friend – a “loving sock monster” named Crust, born from discarded socks soaked in his bodily fluids (yes, you read that right). However, Vegas’s life spins further out of control with a new girlfriend, a paranormal investigator, and a forced 90s sitcom reboot with his two-faced costar. Cue Crust, who takes amusingly deadly approaches to Vegas’s problems.

Production and Distribution:

Rose (Terrifier 2), Daniel John Kearney (Dark Circles), and Chris Sergi (I’m Just Fu*king With You) produced the film. Sergi negotiated the deal with Anchor Bay’s Zambeck. The company’s founders are currently at Berlin’s European Film Market, seeking more gems for their revived label.

Intrigue and Anticipation:

Crust promises a wild ride with its offbeat premise, dark humor, and unique monster concept. Whalen’s directorial debut, the talent involved, and Anchor Bay’s backing raise expectations. Here’s hoping this sock-puppet protector delivers a memorable and hilarious horror experience later this year.
