Game Review: ‘The Kindeman Remedy’

Winner of the Official Selection category of Fear Fest Black Summer 2023, and scoring massive positive ratings on STEAM, Troglobytes Games, and 3D Realms’ dark management game The Kindeman Remedy has made its way to consoles to challenge a new wave of players to push science beyond its ethical limits!

The Kindeman Remedy takes players to a prison where they take on the roles of Dr. Carl Kindeman, a disgraced doctor who is shunned by the scientific and medical community for his unethical research into a “Cure-all” medicine, and Sister Anna, a zealous Nun who wants nothing more than to free the inmates from their suffering by hand delivering them to the Lord.

Now, onto the game itself! The Kindeman Remedy is a “Clicker” game, a point-and-click game where the characters only move or perform actions on something in the environment as long as you click on it with the curser. Surprisingly using a controller is not so bad.

Audio-wise, I like the sinister-sounding soundtrack that helps set the tone for the game’s theme of being sneaky with evil intent. The voice acting is good but I wish there’s more of it for when characters talk to each other in cutscenes.

When it comes to The Kindeman Remedy‘s gameplay, it’s quite simple. During the day you make and distribute medicine to the inmates as well as poison some of the meds and collect corpses to experiment on. The more inmates treated, the more positive points you get that will then be used to upgrade your workstations and other toys for your nightly routine. At night, you experiment on the corpses of your victims and if you rigged an execution properly, you can get a live subject that you can torture. There are objectives you can complete to take the story in different directions but, to be honest, it’s hard to track some of these.

Overall, The Kindeman Remedy is a decent game as twisted as it is. It makes you think but also question the motives of Dr. Kindeman, is he a misunderstood doctor trying to help humanity or just a heartless monster in a lapcoat stroking his ego? The repetitive nature of the game, lack of more voiceover work, and confusing story objectives affect my score giving it a 7/10.

The Kindeman Remedy is out now on PC but will be coming out on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on April 11th, 2024
