The iconic Evil Dead franchise continues to expand its universe with a new entry in development by Infested director Sébastien Vaniček. Following the financial success of last year’s Evil Dead Rise, excitement is brewing for what horrors this new chapter will unleash.

Early Stages and Unanswered Questions

Vaniček, while tight-lipped on specifics, recently spoke with Screen Rant about the project. He acknowledged the burning question on every fan’s mind: will this new film connect to the existing lore? Vaniček, however, remained coy, stating they’re still in the early stages of the writing process. He likened the creative process to building a sandcastle – gathering ideas and forming the foundation before solidifying concrete details.

A Franchise History of Reinvention

The franchise boasts a rich history of reinvention. The original trilogy, born in 1981, stars Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, cementing the series’ cult status. A 2013 reboot attempted to capture the magic for a new generation, and the television series “Ash vs. Evil Dead” continued the adventures of the iconic hero. Evil Dead Rise expanded the universe, introducing a new cast of characters and a fresh take on the demonic possession mythos.

Will Familiar Faces Return?

Whether this new film will feature connections to previous installments remains to be seen. Vaniček’s focus on building a brand new story and characters suggests a potential standalone entry. However, the possibility of cameos or references to the franchise’s past can’t be entirely ruled out.

Lily Sullivan, star of Evil Dead Rise, also remains coy about her potential return. While she acknowledges discussions about future projects, details remain shrouded in mystery. Fans will have to wait and see what the Evil Dead gods have in store for us next.

Stay Tuned

Stay tuned for further updates as Vaniček and his team delve deeper into the creative process. The Evil Dead franchise shows no signs of slowing down, and this new chapter promises to deliver a fresh dose of thrilling horror when it eventually rises from the ashes.

While you wait for more details to surface, you can watch director Sébastien Vaniček’s latest genre offering, Infested, now streaming on Shudder.
