Get ready for a thrilling descent into the underbelly of 1970s New York City! Acclaimed director Cary Joji Fukunaga (“True Detective”) is assembling a powerhouse cast for his upcoming crime thriller, 77 Blackout.
Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Green Book, the upcoming Blade movie) will lead the film with action star Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road, Venom).
The story unfolds in 1977 when a citywide blackout throws New York into turmoil. Five rogue police officers grappling with their own demons and moral ambiguity see an opportunity. They plot a daring heist, targeting three powerful criminal organizations: the Hong Kong Triads, the Italian Mafia, and the Harlem Mob. But as the night progresses, their meticulously planned operation crumbles amidst the unexpected chaos.
With the city plunged into darkness and lawlessness spreading, the officers are forced to confront their enemies and their inner struggles. 77 Blackout promises a gripping exploration of crime, morality, and the human condition in the face of extreme circumstances.
Fukunaga reunites with Oppenheimer producer Charles Roven. The project also boasts a seasoned production team, including Aaron Ginsburg, William Green, Madison Weireter, and Black Bear.
