Today, on Memorial Day, we honor those who have served their country on the battlefield, both past and present. While many have faced the horrors of war firsthand, those who haven’t can’t get any closer than movies on the subject. We’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of five great horror movies that center around soldiers and war.

 

Overlord (2018)

A small group of American soldiers find horror behind enemy lines on the eve of D-Day.

A U.S. Army officer serving in Vietnam is tasked with assassinating a renegade Special Forces Colonel who sees himself as a god.

Ghosts of War (2020)

Five American soldiers were assigned to hold a French Chateau near the end of World War II. This unexpected respite quickly descends into madness when they encounter a supernatural enemy more terrifying than anything seen on the battlefield. Check out our interview with the director.

Predator (1987)

A team of commandos on a mission in a Central American jungle find themselves hunted by an extraterrestrial warrior.

Jacob’s Ladder (1990)

Mourning his dead child, a haunted Vietnam War veteran attempts to uncover his past while suffering from a severe case of dissociation. To do so, he must decipher reality and life from his dreams, delusions, and perceptions of death.

Bonus:
SISU (2022)

While this movie isn’t exactly a horror movie, it is incredible! In fact, we called it “f*cking fantastic” in our review. We also interviewed its writer-director, Jalmari Helander; you should check that out.
