If you’re like me, you were thrilled to hear that another “Dexter” series is in the works. Today, we have a killer update. The highly anticipated prequel series, “Dexter: Original Sin” (formerly Dexter: Origins), is sharpening the knives and has kicked off filming in Miami, Florida. This thrilling origin story adds four new actors to its ranks, further fleshing out the world of young Dexter Morgan.
Previously announced cast members include Patrick Gibson, who brings a fresh perspective to Dexter Morgan. Gibson has starred in shows like “Shadow and Bone” and “The OA.” Christian Slater, known for movies like True Romance and Heathers, stars as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s adopted father. With credits including “Billions” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” Molly Brown rounds out the cast as Debra Morgan. These roles were originally played by Michael C. Hall, James Remar, and Jennifer Carpenter, respectively.
James Martinez (Love, Victor, pictured) joins the series as Angel Batista, a kind-hearted homicide detective starting his career at Miami Metro PD. Christina Milian (Love Don’t Cost a Thing) – as Maria LaGuerta, the first female homicide detective in Miami Metro PD history. Alex Shimizu (“The Blacklist”) – as Vince Masuka, a talented forensics analyst with a sharp wit, ready to mentor the new intern (Dexter); and Reno Wilson (Mike & Molly) – as Bobby Watt, Harry Morgan’s partner and confidante.
“Dexter: Original Sin” takes viewers back to 1991 Miami. We meet a young Dexter struggling with his dark urges, guided by his adoptive father, Harry (Slater), to channel them into a twisted code of justice. Dexter navigates his dual life as a forensics intern at Miami Metro PD while secretly indulging in his murderous desires. However, his extracurricular activities, especially with his new colleagues, might not stay hidden long.
Clyde Phillips, the showrunner who helmed both the original “Dexter” and the recent sequel “Dexter: New Blood,” returns for “Original Sin.” His understanding of the complex Dexter universe assures fans that this prequel will be a worthy addition to the franchise.
