AMC and Shudder, the horror streaming service from AMC Networks, are gearing up to unleash The Devil’s Bath. The film is the latest masterpiece from Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, the visionary duo behind Goodnight Mommy (2014) and The Lodge.

The Devil’s Bath has already garnered critical acclaim. It won the Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution for cinematography at the Berlin International Film Festival. It also swept the Austrian Film Awards, taking home the Best Feature Film, and screened as an Official Selection at Tribeca.

Set in 1750s Austria, the film follows Agnes, a pious woman trapped in a suffocating marriage. As her life devolves into a monotonous routine of chores and societal expectations, darkness takes root within her. Based on historical records, the film explores a chilling, previously untold chapter of European history—a time when despair and religious fervor could have devastating consequences.

Goodnight Mommy, which received an English language remake in 2023, left audiences giving rave reviews after they were left in shock and chilled to the bone. The film centers on twin boys who move to a new house with their mother after she has cosmetic surgery. But under the bandages is someone the boys don’t recognize. You can find the original streaming on Prime Video and Tubi for free.

The Lodge centers on a family who travel to a remote winter cabin for the holidays. When the father leaves his two children with his girlfriend, Grace, a blizzard traps them inside the lodge, and Grace’s past comes back to haunt them. Watch it now on MAX.

The Devil’s Bath opens theatrically at the IFC Center on June 21st before arriving on Shudder on June 28th, 2024. Don’t miss this powerful and unsettling film that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
