In 2013, horror fans were introduced to the Warrens with the first film of The Conjuring franchise. Then, Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, faced the Enfield Poltergeist in The Conjuring II. We then saw them help a young man in the true-story-inspired sequel The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. The Warrens are now gearing up for a new battle in the movie reportedly titled The Conjuring: Last Rites.
Last Rites will be the final film in The Conjuring franchise, which spawned multiple spin-off franchises, including the Annabelle movies and The Nun franchise. While most details are being kept quiet, the film’s premiere date has just been announced as September 5, 2025.
Both Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are set to return. Vera’s daughter, Taisa Farmiga, best known for her role as Sister Irene in The Nun movies, will join her mother, which raises the question of whether or not the movie will be a crossover. Since the Nun (Bonnie Aarons) has appeared in multiple installments of The Conjuring franchise, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise.
According to IMDb, Michael Chaves, who is behind The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Nun II, will be in the director’s chair for the film. With his prior involvement in The Conjuring Universe, he’s a great choice to see it through to the end.
