In June, we reported that Atomic Monster and Blumhouse were teaming up for an original film titled SOULM8TE. Today, we have an update: The movie has found its star, Evil Dead Rise actress Lily Sullivan.
In the 90s, domestic thriller tradition but with a modern, technological twist, SOULM8TE centers on an Artificially Intelligent android (Lily Sullivan) a man acquires to help him cope with losing his recently deceased wife.
Directed by Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother), SOULM8TE is a thriller with a dark tech edge. The story follows a grieving widower seeking solace after his wife’s death with an AI android companion. However, his attempt to create a perfect partner takes a nightmarish turn as the bot transforms and becomes deadly.
Dolan, known for her chilling directorial work, brings a fresh perspective to the project. “This film is ultimately about relationships and the depths of loneliness,” she says. “Even with technological advancements, there are fundamental human truths we can’t escape, and I’m excited to explore them.”
SOULM8TE, which features themes of love, loss, and connection in the age of technology, expands the M3GAN universe following the global box office success of the first film (over $181 million) and the upcoming sequel, M3GAN 2.0.
James Wan, behind the M3GAN, Saw, and The Conjuring franchises, will produce alongside Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions. He co-wrote the script with Ingrid Bisu based on Rafael Jordan’s original script.
SOULM8TE promises to be a thrilling and thought-provoking movie. With its unique blend of genres and a talented team, it will keep audiences on the edge of their seats when it opens in theaters on January 2, 2026.
