Waypoint Entertainment has launched Cweature Features, a new genre label dedicated to producing innovative and terrifying horror films. Led by industry veterans Ken Kao and Josh Rosenbaum, the company aims to create a collaborative space for filmmakers to push the genre’s boundaries.

The announcement follows the success of Waypoint’s deal with NEON, which includes the hit horror film Longlegs. Released less than a month ago, the movie starring Nicolas Cage has grossed $71 million globally, making it the highest-grossing horror film in the last decade.

With the launch of Cweature Features, the company is set to significantly impact the horror scene. It aims to establish a safe place for filmmakers to create twisted, genre-melding nightmares.

“The dark allure and possibilities within the horror genre have always been captivating, and now, through the lens of CUCKOO, our passion has been reinvigorated for all things spooky,” said Josh Rosenbaum, Partner and Producer of Cweature Features and Waypoint Entertainment. “Our excitement led to Waypoint’s desire to include NEON’s acquisition of LONGLEGS as part of our slate deal. We’re haunted by the idea of pushing the genre forward, aiming for an even crazier future of horror.”

The label’s name has a personal origin story inspired by Kao’sKao’sar-old daughter. After continually saying the word “cweature” instead of “creature,” Kao and his wife realized they resembled little “cweatures” themselves. This charming anecdote also evoked childhood memories, where an early love for all things scary was born. The new label embraces the idea that horror transcends age, blending fear with fun and not taking itself too seriously. After all, sometimes the best scares are the ones that come with a twisted grin.

Waypoint Entertainment already has a strong track record in the genre with films like Tilman Singer’s Cuckoo, starring Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens. They are also behind Leigh Whannell’s coming film Wolf Man with Blumhouse Productions.

With a focus on daring and original storytelling, the new label is poised to become a major player in the horror landscape. We’ll keep you posted as more news becomes available. In the meantime, check out Creature Features’ official website.
