One of the most underrated series of 2023 was Prime Video’s “The Rig.” After nearly two years, I had almost given up hope of getting another season. And just like that, Prime Video has quietly announced that the series’ second season is coming! The news gets better. It’s premiering on January 2, 2025!
In the first season, a group of workers on a remote Scottish oil rig is set to return to the mainland; however, a supernatural force takes hold when a mysterious fog enshrouds them. And they are left fighting for survival.
Season 2 will explore the questions left in the first season. After the tsunami hit Kinloch Bravo in season one, Season 2 takes a new direction. Surviving crew members are brought to the Stac, a high-tech floor facility in the unforgiving Arctic landscape where Pictor Oil has hidden its secrets. New threats await the crew as they face corporate greed, environmental chaos, and supernatural forces beyond human understanding.
The returning cast members include Iain Glen (“Game of Thrones”), Emily Hampshire (“Schitt’s Creek”), and Owen Teale (“Game of Thrones”). Rochenda Sandall and Mark Addy are also returning. New cast members include Ross Anderson, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, and Alice Krige.
This genre-hopping series is a must-see filled with chills, thrills, and action. If you haven’t watched season one or want to rewatch it before the second season starts, you can now watch all season one episodes on Prime Video. Tune in for the second season premiere on January 2.
