Shudder has just announced it has acquired Dead Mail, an ’80s Midwest horror thriller, from directors Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy and the producers of Late Night with the Devil, following its screenings at film festivals, including SXSW, Sitges, and more.

In Dead Mail, a bound man crawls along a desolate road and slides a bloody message into a mailbox as a figure closes in. The note reaches Jasper, a “dead letter” investigator who works at a 1980s post office. He investigates the letter’s origins, leading him down a violent path. The case involves a kidnapped keyboard engineer and his eccentric associate. However, Jasper is on the case.

The film stars Sterling Macer Jr., John Fleck, Susan Piver, Micki Jackson, Tomas Boykin, and Nick Heyman.

“We never imagined our film would end up on Shudder,” said DeBoer and McConaghy. “We are beyond excited. Our midwestern family will finally have a reason for a Shudder free trial.”

“DEAD MAIL showcases Kyle and Joe’s talent,” said Emily Gotto, Shudder’s SVP of Acquisitions and Production. “It is a unique, entertaining, and darkly comedic film. It features ’80s nostalgia. It is the perfect bloody and offbeat thriller for Shudder.”

Zachary Weil and Brett Arndt produce Dead Mail, with Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Adam Goldworm, and Susan Priver as executive producers.

Dead Mail will be delivered on Shudder on April 18 as part of Shudder’s Halfway to Halloween celebration.
