If you were a fan of the House of Night  novel series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast, you’re in for a treat; the best-selling 12-book series is getting a movie franchise with Rain Li (Beijing, New York) at the helm of the first film that covers the book Marked.

The book series, released over the early 2000s, has sold over 31 million copies. It has spent 153 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List, reaching the #1 spot multiple times. The series also spent 424 weeks on USA Today’s Best-Selling Books list. Four books (Awakened, Hunted, Burned, Tempted) peaked at #1.

“The books have wide recognition and a large following,” said Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser. “The themes of growth and challenge resonate with young adults. This is the right moment for this film. We are thrilled to bring it to global audiences.”

House of Night is the first part of a strong franchise,” added Delphine Perrier, Highland Film Group COO. “It has a passionate global fan base. Fans are eager to see these stories come to life.”

In the first book, Zoey’s life changes forever. A genetic mutation marks her as a vampire fledgling. She must leave everything behind to go to the House of Night, a boarding school where marked teens learn to live. Zoey navigates teenage love, friendships, and independence, discovering extraordinary gifts that set her apart, making her both feared and revered.

“I’ve worked closely with Molly and Rain,” said P.C. Cast. “I am proud of their work. They respect our universe. Our fans have waited years for this. They will see their beloved characters on screen. We are beyond excited.”

“I’ve long loved this unique universe,” added Li. “P.C. and Kristin created it. I’m excited to bring their vision to new audiences. I also want to share it with their millions of avid followers.”

Rain Li’s feature directorial debut, Beijing, New York, won international awards. She was the cinematographer for Gus Van Sant’s films, including Paranoid Park and Paris Je T’aime. She shot music videos, including Justin Timberlake’s “Sexy Back.” She filmed commercials for major brands. Variety named her one of the ’10 Best Cinematographers to Watch.’ The Hollywood Reporter called her one of ‘The Best Cinematographers of This Generation.’
