Fans of 80s gaming, we’ve got some news for you! Get ready for some brutal, Nazi-killing action on the small screen! A TV series adaptation of the iconic “Wolfenstein” video games is officially in development at Amazon MGM Studios, Variety reports.

A Dream Team to Bring the Fight to Life

Patrick Somerville (Maniac, The Leftovers) is attached to serve as the creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the project under his chaoticgood.tv production banner. He’s joined by a powerhouse executive producing team. That includes Kilter Films, as well as Jonah Nolan (“Westworld,” “Fallout”), Lisa Joy (“Westworld,” “Fallout”), and Athena Wickham (“Westworld,” “Fallout”). Additionally, James Altman of Keyframe Films and Jerk Gustafsson of MachineGames, the developer of “Wolfenstein,” will also serve as executive producers.

From Pixelated Fascism to Prestige TV

The “Wolfenstein” franchise holds a significant place in gaming history, having helped popularize the first-person shooter genre of video games.

The series has largely centered on U.S. World War II soldier William “B.J.” Blazkowicz, a one-man army who goes behind enemy lines to fight the Nazis. In the games, Blazkowicz uncovers terrifying secrets as the Nazis engage in bizarre experiments and dabble in the occult, all in a twisted attempt to tip the scales of the war in their favor.

The franchise’s roots date back to “Castle Wolfenstein,” released in 1981, a top-down perspective game. However, starting with the groundbreaking “Wolfenstein 3D” in 1992, the series shifted to the first-person shooter genre it’s now famous for. At this point, the franchise features 14 games in total, the most recent being the VR game “Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot.” Watch the game trailer below.

Wolfenstein” is the latest video game TV series adaptation from Amazon, produced by Kilter Films. Kilter Films also currently produces the critically acclaimed, Emmy-winning Prime Video series Fallout,” which is gearing up for its second season in December and has already been renewed for a third!

With such a strong team behind it and a beloved IP, the “Wolfenstein” series promises to be a brutal, action-packed, and visually stunning addition to Amazon MGM Studios’ slate. Get ready for B.J. Blazkowicz to lead the fight against the Nazi regime once more!
