She’s alive! The first trailer for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! has officially dropped, and it’s everything we hoped for. Starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, this film is a fresh take on a classic horror tale.
This new adaptation takes us to 1930s Chicago, where a lonely Frankenstein’s monster seeks out Dr. Euphronius to help him build a companion. Together, they bring a murdered young woman back to life, and thus, the Bride is born. But she’s more than they bargained for. Her existence sparks a passionate romance, draws the attention of the police, and even ignites a radical social movement.
Inspired by the iconic James Whale film and Mary Shelley’s original 1818 novel, Frankenstein, The Bride! Boasts an incredible cast. Buckley takes on the title role, with Bale starring as Frankenstein’s monster. They are joined by Penélope Cruz, Annette Bening, Peter Sarsgaard, and Maggie’s brother, Jake Gyllenhaal.
This is Gyllenhaal’s second time in the director’s chair, following her critically acclaimed debut, The Lost Daughter. The film has a talented crew that includes the cinematographer from Joker. And judging by the trailer, you can expect some stunning visuals.
While we’re all excited for this one, it’s worth noting that it’s not the only Frankenstein film on the horizon. Guillermo del Toro has his own version of Frankenstein, starring Jacob Elordi, which will premiere on Netflix. Get ready for Gyllenhaal’s vision to spring to life when The Bride! hits theaters on March 6, 2026.
