Get ready to head back to Hawkins, but not quite like you’ve seen it before. The first poster and trailer just dropped for “Stranger Things: Tales from ’85,” an upcoming animated spin-off from the Duffer Brothers. While we’re still waiting on an exact release date, Netflix has confirmed it’ll be hitting our screens later this year.

The Vibe: Saturday Morning Cartoons

The Duffer Brothers wanted to lean into that classic ’80s animation nostalgia.

“The idea was kind of to evoke a feeling of an ’80s cartoon,” Matt Duffer explained. It’s a smart move—giving us that retro aesthetic while expanding the lore we already love.

When Does It Take Place?

The series is set in winter 1985, placing it between Seasons 2 and 3 of “Stranger Things.” The Hawkins crew is back together to face off against new monsters and unravel a fresh paranormal mystery that’s haunting the town during the off-season.

The Team & Cast

The show is in good hands with Eric Robles (Fanboy & Chum Chum) as showrunner and the talented folks at Flying Bark Productions (What If?, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) handling the animation.

Since the original actors have… well, aged out of their middle school voices, we have a fresh voice cast stepping into the iconic roles:

  • Davey Norstedt as Eleven

  • Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max

  • Luca Diaz as Mike

  • Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas

  • Braxton Quinney as Dustin

  • Ben Plessala as Will

  • Brett Gipson as Hopper

We’re also getting some incredible guest voices like Janeane Garofalo and Lou Diamond Phillips.

Behind the Scenes:

The Duffers are executive producing alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. According to Ross Duffer, this was one of the earliest ideas they had when planning to expand the Stranger Things universe. Stay tuned for more.
