Pack your bags and grab your toothbrush, because we’re finally headed to summer camp. While the wait for Peacock’sCrystal Lake has felt longer than a legal battle over slasher rights, the silence is officially being broken. Bloody-Disgusting has shared the first glimpse at the back of a very lumpy, misshapen head, which we can only assume is young Jason’s.

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane (IT: Welcome to Derry) took to Instagram to channel his inner Crazy Ralph, posting a cryptic teaser: “News coming. Monday. We’re all doomed.” Since it’s currently Saturday, May 9, you only have to survive two more days before we get something good.

Meet the Neighbors (Before They Die)

This eight-episode prequel series from A24 aims to give us the “how-to” guide on raising a supernatural mass murderer. Here’s who is populating the woods:

Callum Vinson (Chucky) is stepping into the undersized shoes of young Jason Voorhees.

Linda Cardellini stars as Pamela Voorhees. In this version, Pamela reportedly traded a potential singing career for the joys of motherhood—a choice that, as we know, eventually leads to a very different kind of “cutting” industry.

The roster includes William Catlett (Abigail), Joy Suprano (Fleishman Is in Trouble), and Christopher Denham (Shining Girls).

Behind the Camera

A24 isn’t playing around with the visuals. They’ve assembled a directorial squad that knows how to balance “prestige” with “paranoia,” including Michael Lennox (Derry Girls), Celine Held & Logan George (Caddo Lake), and Quyen Tran.

Expect something a bit more atmospheric than your standard 80s hack-and-slash—though with this many episodes, there’s plenty of time for both character development and creative dismemberment.

Why This Matters

For those keeping score at home, “Crystal Lake” marks the first official Friday the 13th project since the 2009 Platinum Dunes remake. We’ve endured a 17-year drought of machete-wielding mayhem, making this the most anticipated return to the woods in horror history.

Will the “big news” on Monday finally give us a release date? Maybe we’ll get a teaser trailer? Or are we just being toyed with? Stay tuned—and maybe stay out of the water until then.
