Forget the brunch reservations and the last-minute bouquets. This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating a different kind of maternal bond—the kind that involves a dying wish, a gallon of gasoline, and a very specific request for homicide. We’re talking about Is God Is.
To mark the holiday, two new clips for Is God Is have officially dropped, proving that while “Mother knows best,” she also knows how to hold a grudge.
A Family Reunion Written in Blood
If you were looking for a heartwarming tale about healing old wounds over potato salad, keep walking. Is God Is isn’t interested in your feelings; it’s interested in your femoral artery. This blood-spattered, genre-bending odyssey proves that vengeance is a dish best served with Southern Gothic grit and a side of pitch-black comedy so dark you’ll need a flashlight to find the exit.
Based on Aleshea Harris’ award-winning play, the film marks her directorial debut—and she isn’t exactly “easing” into the director’s chair. She’s coming out swinging with a cinematic cocktail that’s equal parts Spaghetti Western and Greek Tragedy, served in a glass rimmed with desert salt and broken dreams.
Hell Hath No Fury (But These Two Do)
The setup is beautifully, terrifyingly simple: Twin sisters Anaia and Racine receive a letter from their long-lost mother. She has a horrific backstory, a body covered in scars, and one modest request: Find their father and end him.
What follows is an epic quest for retribution stretching from the Deep South to the California desert. Two newly released clips give us a taste of the biblical carnage:
Make Your Daddy Dead:
Vivica A. Fox issues a request to her twin daughters to hunt down their father and make him pay as her final wish.
The Devil Knows:
We’re introduced to Erika Alexander as Divine, giving a lively sermon that turns a bit awkward.
An Absolute Powerhouse of a Cast
You know a script is “must-read” material when the call sheet looks like a VIP list for the Oscars. Kara Young and Mallori Johnson lead the charge as the twin engines of destruction, but they aren’t alone in the chaos. They are joined by Janelle Monáe, Erika Alexander, Sterling K. Brown, Vivica A. Fox, Mykelti Williamson, Josiah Cross, and Christopher Denham.
A Stylized Fever Dream
Produced by a “who’s who” of visionary talent—including Tessa Thompson and Janicza Bravo—this isn’t your standard Saturday night thriller. It’s a stylized fever dream that refuses to stay in its lane. It’s hilarious until it’s harrowing, and stunning right up until the first throat gets slit.
The Twins are Coming
Aleshea Harris wrote and directed this “R” rated masterpiece, and considering the plot involves hunting your own paternal DNA, “strong/bloody violence” feels like a bit of an understatement.
The revenge genre is getting a much-needed shot of adrenaline when Is God Is hits theaters on May 15, 2026. You can watch the previous clips here.
