If cinema has taught us anything, it’s that a group of friends heading into the woods to “mend their fractured bonds” never ends well. Director Anton Sigurdsson (Full Pockets) is driving that point home with his upcoming thriller, Refuge.
Slated for an upcoming digital premiere, the film takes a scenic weekend getaway and aggressively turns it into a high-stakes psychological pressure cooker.
Unpacking Heavy Baggage in the Wilderness
The film follows four old friends who pack up their tackle boxes and head out to a remote fishing spot. All in the hopes of getting a little fresh air and fixing years of distance. Unfortunately, the tranquility is cut short when one of the men—a desperate, grieving father—drops a devastating bombshell.
He doesn’t just think his daughter’s disappearance was a tragedy. He’s convinced one of the men sitting across the campfire is directly responsible. In the middle of nowhere, with no cell service and old secrets bubbling to the surface, a weekend of male bonding instantly transforms into a desperate game of survival and accusation. And honestly, we get it.
The Campfire Suspects
Sigurdsson has assembled a gritty indie ensemble to ground the escalating paranoia and flying accusations. Adam Sinclair (Animal Kingdom TV series), Donald Paul (Know Me), Adam Dorsey (The Pharm), and Christopher Dietrick (Mustang) star.
