FX is locking down serious star power for its upcoming adaptation of the blockbuster video game franchise. Emmy nominee Lizzy Caplan has officially joined the cast of FX’s highly anticipated Far Cry television series, Variety reports.
A Powerhouse Creative Team
First announced in late 2025, the series is being spearheaded by a formidable creative duo. Noah Hawley (FX’s Fargo and Alien: Earth) is executive producing via 26 Keys. Hawley is joined by Rob Mac (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), who co-created the series and will star. He will also executive produce under More Better Productions.
Mirroring the format of the hit Ubisoft video games, the series will debut as an anthology. It will completely reset cast, setting, and storyline each season. While exact plot details and Caplan’s character are being kept strictly under wraps, fans can expect the franchise’s trademark blend of chaotic survival, lawless frontiers, and larger-than-life villains.
The original game, released in 2004, is set on a mysterious, sun-drenched tropical archipelago. The story follows ex-Special Forces operative Jack Carver as he hunts for missing journalist Valerie Constantine. What begins as a straightforward rescue mission rapidly spirals into a brutal fight for survival. Jack is hunted by a ruthless mercenary army and forced to confront a horde of genetically engineered monstrosities birthed by a mad scientist.
Caplan Returns to FX
This project marks a high-profile homecoming for Caplan. She previously wowed audiences on the network with her acclaimed performance in the limited series “Fleishman Is In Trouble,” which earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress.
Caplan boasts an incredibly versatile resume across both television and film. That includes the Emmy-nominated series “Masters of Sex (Emmy-nominated),” “Fatal Attraction,” “Zero Day,” “Castle Rock,” and the cult-classic comedy “Party Down.” Caplan also has an impressive film resume, appearing in Cobweb, Cloverfield, 127 Hours, and the Now You See Me franchise.
The star-studded executive producing team also includes Simon Emanuel, Emilia Serrano (26 Keys), Nick Frenkel (3 Arts), Monica Macer, Peter Calloway, John Campisi, alongside Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
Adapting a 100-Million-Player Phenomenon
This project marks a historic milestone as the first-ever live-action television adaptation of the Far Cry universe. Since the original game debuted in 2004, the franchise has ballooned into a global phenomenon, spanning six mainline games and numerous spinoffs, captivating over 100 million unique players worldwide.
“Far Cry“ will air on FX and stream on Hulu domestically, with an international release slated for Disney+.
