Before real life can crush the souls of five college graduates, a remote cave system in Thailand decides to try doing it literally. The Devil’s Mouth aims to blend claustrophobic, underwater terror with the sharp energy of a summer popcorn flick, ensuring you’ll think twice before booking that post-grad backpacking trip.
The Talent
Featuring a charismatic young ensemble including Kathryn Newton, Lana Condor, Nico Hiraga, Gavin Casalegno, and Tommi Rose, the film perfectly bottles that vibrant, overconfident college energy before tossing it directly into a blender. What starts as a final, sun-drenched hurrah along a breathtaking coastline quickly devolves into a desperate, soggy fight for survival when the group signs up to explore a secluded cave system known, naturally, as The Devil’s Mouth.
Directed with a keen eye for suspense by Jeff Wadlow, the film brings high-stakes tension to a screenplay penned by Aja Gabel and Myung Joh Wesner. Along with the core cast, the thriller also stars Tayme Thapthimthong, rounding out a survival adventure that is as unforgiving as it is fiercely entertaining.
Spring Break Meets Survival Horror
Deep inside this suffocating labyrinth, the vibe goes from Spring Break to Survival Horror thanks to a freak storm from the previous week. The tempest flooded the caves with sea life that promptly perished in the fresh water—except for one highly unbothered, incredibly hostile apex predator that didn’t get the memo. Suddenly, the friends find themselves hunted by a silent, underwater nightmare in an environment where every blind corner is a panic attack waiting to happen.
As the oxygen runs low and the body count threatens to rise, the group’s tight-knit bond begins to fracture faster than their sense of direction. Trust becomes a luxury they can’t afford; panic takes the driver’s seat, and the suffocating darkness forces them to realize that escaping this natural death trap will require a few brutal human sacrifices.
